Psychology: Referencing

Library subject guide for Psychology

Why Reference?

  • You show that you’ve have read around your subject.
  • You point the reader to the source of some of the ideas and words you’ve used.
  • You reduce the risk of being accused of plagiarism.

Worried about plagiarism?

If you have any concerns about plagiarism, you can run a draft of your assignment through Turnitin 'draft checker' and view an originality report. You will see an 'originality score' on your work, but on its own this is not very helpful. Far more important is the whole report, which you should take time to look through.  The highlighted sections of text will help you decide whether you have referenced them adequately, or whether you need to make changes to your work before submitting it.

APA Style Website: Official American Psychological Association publication style website. It includes resources and tutorials covering the use of the APA style including how to reference.
