Introduction to the Library: Reserve & Collect

Our reservations service

Our Reserve & Collect service allows you to request a book or DVD that is available on the shelves as well as to reserve a book or DVD when all copies are out on loan.

When a copy becomes available, we will send you an email to your BU account. You can come in to collect it during our staffed Help Zone times:  Monday to Friday 9am - 5pm.

Making a reservation

Search for the book title (or search by keyword or author) on the Library Catalogue.

Regardless of whether all the lending copies are on loan or are available, you can click to Reserve this item, as below:

This takes you to My Account.

Log in to My Account with your library borrower  number. This is the 8 digit number printed under the barcode on your Student ID Card.

At the next reservation screen, select the library you want to collect the item from and finally click Reserve to complete the request:


 

Your reservation will be confirmed, as below:

How do I know when my reserved book is here?

We will email you when the book is ready for you to collect. We always use your BU university email account for this.

Or you can check your current reservations yourself at any time by logging into My Account and selecting the Reservations tab.

Where do I collect my reservation?

When we have notified you by email that your item is ready, please check to see which Library it is being held at. We cannot transfer items between sites during this period.

Collect it from the Library Help Zone anytime Monday to Friday,  9am to 4.45pm. You don't need to pre-book a time but may need to queue at the library entrance on arrival so that staff can triage your enquiry.

We keep reserved books for you for one week only, so it's important that you check your BU emails regularly.

Any problems?

If you find that you can't make your reservation online, please speak to staff at the Help Zone, where we can make the reservation for you on a card.
