PAL Central: Celebrating PAL at BU

An online hub of guidance and resources for our PAL Leaders and their Level 4 students.

Each year we host the Annual PAL Awards - an event to recognise and celebrate the achievements of our PAL Leaders, Placement PAL Leaders, and Peer Support Leaders. Previously opened by Vice Chancellor John Vinney, the awards ceremony sees our Leaders awarded certificates for their contribution to the PAL Scheme and enhancing the student experience.

We also have a series of special awards, some of which are aligned to BU2025's values, for those Leaders that have been nominated by their students or academics for their outstanding contributions. You can find a full list of our special awards and their criteria below. The PAL Awards is one of the highlights of the academic year for us and our Leaders, and we look forward to celebrating with all of those involved in Peer Assisted Learning.

PAL Awards Categories

  • Responsibility Award – “We take responsibility for the impact of our actions and focus our activity as a learning community on making a positive contribution to society.”
    • For a Leader who has gone the extra mile and taken responsibility in their role to enhance the student experience.

  • Inclusivity Award – “We value and respect diversity and act to ensure that we are inclusive.”
    • For a Leader who ensures their sessions are as inclusive and respectful as possible, having a positive impact on their students’ learning

  • Creativity Award – “We are imaginative, innovative and create solutions to problems.”
    • For a Leader who has used creative and innovative methods to ensure their sessions are engaging

  • Excellence Award – “We strive for excellence in everything that we do.”
    • For a Leader who when delivering their PAL sessions have demonstrated excellent facilitation skills and have inspired their students learning.

  • Support Award
    • For a Leader who has provided outstanding support to their students throughout the academic year

  • Teamwork Award (Academic staff to nominate)
    • For a team of Leaders who have demonstrated excellent teamwork and communication skills that has benefitted their programme/department
