Research Data Management: Finding data

Research Data Management (RDM) Library guide

Existing data sources

The ESRC require grant applicants to document in their Data Management Plans whether or not existing datasets can be re-used. The following could be consulted:

Source Description
UK Data Service Data Catalogue Collections of key economic, social and historical data spanning many disciplines and themes. The ESRC recommend searching this.
UKRI Gateway to Research Past and present research grants and their outputs. The ESRC recommend searching this.
The Registry of Research Data Repositories (re3data) Global registry of research data repositories across all academic disciplines. Although not a search engine for finding data, this resource is a starting point for finding repositories that may contain relevant searchable data.
DataCite Commons DataCite Commons indexes datasets registered with a DOI with DataCite, CrossRef or one of six other scholarly DOI agencies. The DataCite Commons support page provides guidance on how to search effectively.
