Peer Support Leader FAQs
Where can I find the observation sheets?
You can download these from the online Peer Support Leader Guide.
We also have paper copies in the PAL office – email us a at least 2 hours before the observation if you want to collect so we can arrange this.
How long should a PAL session last?
In line with guidance for all academics and staff members with a timetabled session, we have asked PAL Leaders to start the session 10 minutes past the hour (or scheduled start time) and finish five minutes before the hour (or scheduled finish time). This allows time for them to enter the room, set up any kit, complete multi-factor authentication, and for students to exit, in line with ventilation requirements at the end.
What if one of my assigned PAL Leaders advises me that they can't make the observation scheduled?
Please liaise with the PAL Leader to arrange an alternative date for you to complete the observation, and cc in the Central PAL Team.
What if a PAL Leader has a lecture/seminar straight after the session?
See if there is a time you are both on campus that day or the next where you can meet to discuss your feedback. If not, you can send them your written feedback only.
What if a PAL Leader does not respond well to my feedback?
Using the techniques we have covered during the training should reduce the risk of this happening. However, if a PAL Leader has made you uncomfortable with their behaviour, please come and chat to us about it.
What do I do if I have any concerns about the PAL Leader/PAL session I have observed?
Email us to set up an appointment - either face to face or via Teams and we can address your concerns.
