PAL Central: Setting up your PAL room

An online hub of guidance and resources for our PAL Leaders and their Level 4 students.

Setting up your PAL room

Contact IT

Sometimes you can do everything right and it still goes wrong, and as a PAL Leader, you are likely to be asked a range of IT-related questions by your PAL group. You may be able to answer some of them, others you will need to direct to the IT Service Desk.

For help and support, please get in touch with the IT Service Desk on 01202 965515 (available 24/7). Alternatively, head to the service portal to a raise a request, report an issue, or speak with a member of the Service Desk team on the Help Desk Chat service.

You can also visit IT Staff at one of the Help Zones:

New Monitors

You may have noticed that the library have new computers - so do the seminar rooms!

The computer screens are now touch screen and all the computers have Windows 10.

The on/off button and the USB slots are now underneath the screen. The screen can be moved up to face the ceiling, so you can find these easily.

Logging in and the control panel for the whiteboard are still the same, as shown in the video on this page. You can still plug your laptop in to use.

Logging in

Students are assigned a Bournemouth University username and password which enables to log into BU resources that are available to students. This account can be used for almost all IT systems including email, Brightspace and the student portal.

Back Up Plan

Technology doesn't always work how we want it to, and IT can't always help straight away.

Be prepared! Bring a back up for your PAL sessions - you get printer credits, so use them! Print off handouts that can be used rather than a PowerPoint or whatever you had planned that required a computer.
