Streets of Bournemouth

The HLF project

Originally Heritage Lottery funded and launched in 2007, the Streets of Bournemouth project was a collaboration between BU and Bournemouth Borough Council. The Streets of Bournemouth website provided access to 7500 images via a mapping tool and documents organised into 14 themes that reflect Bournemouth's history. Images reflected who built, lived, or worked in Bournemouth, when landmark buildings were erected, and how the environment has changed. These images emanated from a variety of sources, including contributions from members of the public.

Current access

Due to software developments the original website was archived in 2018 and documents relating to each of the 14 themes can be accessed via https://www.streets-of-bournemouth.org.uk/.

There are also 10 boxes of paperwork associated with the project covering topics including: grant proposal, contracts, finance, project development reports, oral history, learning resource content, “Bournemouth in a Box” and back-up media.

How to access the photographs

The images we have access to are simply numbered and we cannot provide a search function to go through them using keywords such as place names or street names.

If you would like to access the images or the above physical content, please contact Archive and Special Collections at Library and Learning Services via archivesandspecialcollections@bournemouth.ac.uk
